Love and Luxury with Violet & Wren

So we are all very much familiar with this concept of Intimate Apparel as ready-to-wear by now, right? Not only is this concept of “inner/outer wear” one of the founding notions behind this blog but It also speaks to one of my core values that is: confidence. Confidence in that you should be proud of what you wear, how you wear it, to show it off and let what you wear empower you!

Now, more than ever, we are seeing intimates made to be shown off, which is what attracted me to our brand of the month: Violet & Wren. Born in London, 2015 founders (& friends) Helen and Louise have created a collection that is so great it can be worn from bedroom to the streets. Each piece is so on trend with their luxury, silk/cotton blends and fresh hand -painted prints from botanical designs to contemporary stripes making it a statement in your wardrobe. Violet & Wren creates comfy pajamas you want to wear all day long, delicious loungewear, and kimonos that are to die for! Coming next year you will find some new categories that I cannot wait for you all to see in stores. Some personal favorite prints? I love the Pajama Set in Night Flowers prints and the Maxi Robe in Opium Haze.

Louise and Helen come from 10 years of experience in the fashion industry and used their skills to produce investment pieces that are guaranteed to last season after season. Pair pieces from Violet & Wren with fashion items from your current wardrobe to create a unique and great look. Designed in England and available globally, you can experience this fabulous brand so go ahead and #TreatYourself, everyone needs something super special in their wardrobe ;)

Empowering Women - Empowering Lifestyle

Empowering Women - Empowering Lifestyle

Lingerie Lovers: As summer holiday is coming to an end I wanted to take my latest post to feature my top swimwear pick from the summer. Yes, this is a blog about empowering lingerie and will remain so. However, when you think about it, swimsuits are just bras and panties that have been deemed the most acceptable to wear in public.

Swimwear is another opportunity, much like that perfect set of lingerie, for a woman to feel confident, comfortable and sexy. A swimsuit complements a woman; it embraces every body type and while it is worn for the beach or pool, more often you find a swimsuit taken from beach to the streets.

Personally, I love a great swimsuit (almost) as much as lingerie and after many weeks of strenuous - insert sarcasm here - research I have stumbled across an incredible, emerging brand that I am calling my pick of the summer: Rose Marin Swimwear. This line focuses not only on producing gorgeous collections that can be worn all day on or off the beach, but, more importantly, "empowering women, empowering lifestyle

Rose Marin Swimwear is created in Portugal and cut from luxurious fabrics offering amazing resort and spring/summer collections. Designer, Tereza, brings you a line combining unique styles and patterns which express empowerment, femininity, sensuality and confidence. This contemporary line has a softness to each design complementing all body types and “embraces the perfection in the imperfection”.

With so many gorgeous swimwear brands on the market it is often difficult to find one brand that stands out. Rose Marin offers pieces with supportive straps, cut outs in all the right places, flattering angled cuts, high waist bottoms and sporty tops from bikinis to one pieces to strapless; you are guaranteed to find that perfect piece for you. This innovative swim line is one to watch as each signature collection breaks boundaries and I cannot wait to see what Rose Marin will launch next.

A Letter to my #LingerieLovers

To my lingerie babes,

I am sorry I have been on a little hiatus recently. Let’s just say: a LOT has been going on.

I wanted to take this opportunity to come back with an article that does not focus on a lingerie brand but, rather, my “brand” (for lack of better word): Lingerie is Beautiful. Sometimes you need to hit the reset button and to remind ourselves of what is important and why we do what we do. So let me take a moment to express how I think it is so important for women to support women. Actually, scratch that, for people to support people. Coming from my personal experience, we cannot allow someone to squash our dreams or our art (in whatever form). We cannot let people put out our flame otherwise we will never grow. So don’t let anybody tell you that you should reconsider your creativity. That is you, your core, your soul. I am very lucky to now be surrounded by women, people, friends, family & colleagues who support my creativity, who inspire my confidence and who empower me. Surround yourselves with those people and to the others: time to let go.

Writing this blog, as I have described before, stemmed from my career in intimate apparel which quickly became a passion for me. I discovered that within this industry many people are informed, however, outside of the industry, the consumer, majority of people regard intimate apparel as nothing more than bras and panties and are missing the opportunity that lingerie can give them. Some people might laugh at that, to be honest at times I make myself giggle thinking about how I have just described the perfect panty to the perfect feeling - but take a second to let it marinate, and you will get it.

Let’s dial it back. Soon after the launch of this blog, I was reprimanded for acting on my creativity and sharing this message. I won’t lie, this was devastating. Something I have worked so hard for, something I became passionate about and could see a great future in, was pulled away from me, all because I took my passion one step further. In a world with so much hate, doubt, & negativity, how can we belittle the efforts of somebody who wants to spread a strong and healthy message? Well, it all happens for a reason. Oh that phrase we all love to hate and hate to love! It is true even if it takes us a while to get there. Knowing what I know now, do I want to work for a company who does not support creativity? No. Sorry, hell no! In the recent weeks I have been distant from Lingerie is Beautiful, and I think it will come as no surprise that I was battling some freakin roadblocks thrown my way.  I was angry, frustrated and I was not feeling very creative nor inspired. As things are starting to progress for me in my new career path, I have had some bumps along the way, but I will not back away from the obstacles thrown at me, I will take them on! I will not back away from my goals and I will keep sharing my message and passion to all the women around me and more!  So my friends, that being said, I needed a minute to collect myself, my thoughts, and refocus on my mission: to spread the love of lingerie and what it really should mean to women.

My message has never been more personal than it has been recently: we should constantly inspire confidence, strength, empowerment and to never give up. In our life, every single day, we put on an outfit. This outfit is our chance to show all those aforementioned traits and how we express ourselves. So to me, it is clear that the power of clothing specifically in this case: lingerie, is not to be ignored. In our world today women are still fighting for equality, to be heard, to feel empowered. When I think of the one piece that, as women, we put on our body every day to make us feel strong and sexy, it's lingerie. What says “powerful women” more than a great bra & panty set. Sports bra, sexy bra, comfy grandmas lingerie - it does not make a difference. The message remains the same: put something on each morning that inspires your best self and carry that feeling with you all day.

Stay tuned as I get back to it, highlighting the brands who feel equally passionate about the importance of women - people -  and whose garments speak to these issues. Lingerie is Beautiful, people are beautiful, people are strong and everyone is sexy. So to the ones who try to tell you otherwise: screw ‘em! But, when those ones realize that they are not helping themselves by putting down others: we will be here to show them the way towards eliminating self doubt, to inner & outer confidence, strength & to be sexy, whatever sexy is for you!

Let’s talk about the facts first: one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her life time. While a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer nearly doubles should she have a first-degree relative  (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with cancer, about 85% of breast cancers occur in women with who have no family history. Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. It is alarming how common this cancer is and, overall, the risk woman have of developing it. In fact, back in November 2015 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer - but happy to say she kicked it’s ass!!!

Over the years, awareness has increased. Attention is being paid and there are so many opportunities for people to contribute to various funds, charities and research. This is fantastic. But, let’s talk about something else: mastectomy. Did you know there are five different types of mastectomy? This leads me into our next topic: what brands are out there for the fierce survivors who have to undergo a surgery of either full or partial breast removal? I introduce you to Red Fern Lingerie created and designed by #sexysurvivor: Tina Doueihi.

Survivors can reconnect with their femininity

Red Fern Lingerie is an Australian Mastectomy Lingerie Brand launched in 2012 created by a survivor for survivors. Designer of Red Fern, Tina, was inspired to create the line because of her own experience. Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. She is one strong, amazing, badass woman who after undergoing treatment and a mastectomy, beat cancer! Tina was able to have immediate reconstructive surgery, however, when she needed to go bra shopping she discovered her options were extremely limited. With breast cancer being so common and many women experiencing the same necessity, why so few options? In that moment, she decided to launch Red Fern Lingerie which would help other survivors to not only have options but to have the opportunity to "reconnect with their femininity". The line is stylish, delicate and comfortable. This luxury line offers a wide range of styles and sizes for all the heroic survivors to feel sexy, confident and beautiful - even, and especially, in their most difficult moments.

Red Fern Lingerie can be purchased on directly on their website (shop here) and other retail shops (find a store near you!). Tina plans to expand the line to swimwear, gym wear, body suits, maternity bras and sports bras. Watch out US boutiques as Red Fern grows.

It goes without saying how special this brand is and how important it is to continue to call awareness to breast cancer; to support women, directly and indirectly, affected; and spread the word that survivors have options and can all be #sexysurvivors. Last but not least, Red Fern Lingerie does not only give you this incredible line but works with multiple charities across the world in Australia, USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand.

BLURRED LINES: activewear x lingerie

Empower Strength Movement

MICHI by Michelle Watson

Michelle Watson created the gorgeous activewear brand, MICHI, in 2010. Her inspiration comes from superheroines, 90's designers and nature. MICHI is one of the top activewear brands out there (personally I believe one of the best!) but, while this brand is fabulous, you - my lingerie lovers - might be wondering why I am featuring an activewear line on a lingerie blog. Well, one of my most favorite parts about MICHI is that the designs are so in line with what we are seeing in the lingerie world currently: mesh, cut-outs, strappy bras, versatility and uniqueness, Michelle seeks inspiration from boudoir lingerie. Let me give you a little sneak peek into my personal background: I am a lingerie lover first and fitness junkie second so, to find a brand that combines both of my passions is truly a dream for me and this week, I wanted to share it with all of you.

Empower, unique, strength, self-expression, quality, performance, conscious collection: all of these core values are so important to us (women) in so many different aspects of our lives. Whether it be attributed to the movements you see today in politics, entertainment, civil & women rights, to ready-to-wear fashion lines , to lingerie brands, these core values are so important to us. MICHI was created with these core values in mind. It combines those with a splash of intimate details to create an incredible line.

Like lingerie brands, each piece from MICHI is created to flatter the female and her natural curves, to provide  support while you are working out (or just being that busy #bossbabe you are each day), and enhance your performance. I love the versatility of MICHI because not only can you wear it to the gym, you can wear it as part of your ready-to-wear outfit and most of the sports bras are definitely sexy enough for the bedroom. The color palette is divine and with this palette it is clear that Michelle is inspired by nature. Last, but certainly not least, all of their bras and leggings are created with sustainable textiles and produced in a female owned factory just outside of Toronto. MICHI never stops empowering and supporting women and gives me confidence the same way a gorgeous set of lingerie does.

There is so much more I can say about this brand, however, I know that once you see these pieces you will understand its connection to lingerie, you will understand why it is “boundary breaking” and I promise you will fall in love. I have featured some of my favorite pieces from the MICHI collection in my gallery* but I encourage you to head over to their website right away to experience all of the gorgeous pieces.

If you do not know her already, please allow me to introduce you to Flora Backer: one of the most successful lingerie designers and pioneer in the industry. Flora is the founder of iconic line, Flora Nikrooz (est. 1983) which quickly became a recognized brand across the world. After a few years away from Flora Nikrooz, Flora couldn’t deny her passion and so she took her incredible, undying, talent to create her latest line: Rya Collection.

Rya Collection first introduced itself as a luxury bridal line including robes and chemises made from gorgeous fabrics unlike anything you have seen. Since, she has taken classic designs and transformed them into romantic, delicate and versatile cover ups, pajamas, teddies & rompers and gowns.

This line is luxury through and through but what I love most about this collection is that you can take the pieces beyond the bedroom. Robes can be easily worn over a pair of jeans and high boots or even as a cover up to the beach (resort, pool, spa, whatever strikes your fancy); bralettes with incredible floral detail are perfect for spring/summer outfits and I can see this taking on that Coachella fashion we all seek each spring – see “Woodstock gown” &  La Fleur Bralette & Short Set” . But, with all that said, Flora’s designs are first made to wear inside the bedroom as they elude sexiness and passion without compromising style. I am truly fortunate to own the Woodstock Robe and can say, from experience, that this is a “stop people in the streets” , a one of a kind, piece.

Let’s bring it back to the core of this brand: bridal. Flora’s pieces are perfect for the future bride and her bridal party. If you are looking for something to wear on the night before your wedding, wedding night, honeymoon, or all of the above(!) do not give a second thought: Rya Collection is the answer. I can confidentially say this as my own sister (see how beautiful she is in my gallery!) was simply stunning in “Exposed Kimono Cover-Up”.

I hope after reading this you will be looking to purchase your first piece. You can purchase on their website or support your local specialty boutiques and experience each garment. Please put Rya Collection on your radar because if you like what you see now then trust me, you cannot imagine what Flora has in store for us next. I had the privilege to view her upcoming collection and Flora has let me share some sneak previews with all of you but cannot wait to show you more when it hits stores with the Fall/Winter Collections, so stay tuned!

PS: Rya Collection was inspired by Flora’s daughter, Rya – how sweet is that!?

Happy shopping
